Abu Dhabi Launches AI-Powered Smart Parking: No SMS, No Tickets, No Payment Machines Required

Abu Dhabi is taking another major step toward becoming a smarter city with the launch of its new Free Flow Paid Parking System, an AI-powered solution that automatically deducts parking fees through the Darb app wallet. The innovative system eliminates the need for SMS payments, parking meters, QR code scanning, paper tickets, and cash transactions, offering motorists a completely seamless parking experience.

Abu Dhabi’s Free Flow Paid Parking System

From June 1, 2026 onward, Abu Dhabi motorists can look forward to a seamless parking experience with automatic payments through the Darb app wallet, Q Mobility revealed.

The new smart parking solution, introduced by Q Mobility, uses artificial intelligence and automatic license plate recognition technology to detect vehicles entering and exiting designated parking areas.

Once a vehicle enters a participating parking facility, the parking session starts automatically. Upon exit, the system calculates the parking charges and deducts the amount directly from the user’s Darb wallet without requiring any manual action.

Key Features of the New Smart Parking System:

  • Automatic parking registration upon vehicle entry
  • AI-powered license plate recognition
  • Direct fee deduction through the Darb app wallet
  • No SMS activation required
  • No QR codes or payment machines
  • No paper tickets or cash payments
  • Faster and more convenient parking experience
  • Reduced risk of forgetting to activate parking sessions

How Does It Work?

The process is designed to be simple and fully automated:

  1. Drive into a participating parking facility.
  2. The system automatically recognizes your vehicle number plate.
  3. Your parking session begins instantly.
  4. Exit the parking area when finished.
  5. Parking fees are automatically deducted from your Darb wallet.

Important Reminder for Motorists

Authorities have advised drivers to maintain sufficient funds in their Darb e-wallet before using the service. Insufficient balance may lead to payment issues and could result in parking violations or fines.
