What is Tawtheeq Abu Dhabi?
A Tawtheeq is required if you want to rent out property in the United Arab Emirates. It’s a government registration of your lease contract aimed to formalize agreements and improve openness between landlords and renters to help avoid disputes.
Who should apply?
- Anyone renting a house in Abu Dhabi or the surrounding area is covered by the system, which is designed to safeguard and support both parties.
- Tawtheeq is obligated by law to register the tenancy contract of property owners and management businesses in the catchment area.
Why it is mandatory in Abu Dhabi?
- To connect your power and water to the Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, you must have a registered and current Tawtheeq contract (ADDC).
- It will be more difficult to get renters for your rental home if you cannot furnish a Tawtheeq. As a result of this, there may be longer vacancies and lower rental rates.
- Legal Tawtheeq contracts are required for many renters, including government personnel and those who want to sponsor a family member for a residency permit.
Where to apply?

What is the cost?
- It cost 1000 AED per property.
Documents required
- Renters cannot register their leases; instead, that responsibility falls on their landlord (or property manager).
- The documentation needed to register will differ depending on whether the landlord or a property management firm is involved in the process.
- Account opening form
- A copy of the owner’s valid passport, as well as the signature of the person authorized to sign on their behalf.
- A copy of the authorized signatory or representative’s Emirates ID card is required.
- For UAE nationals, a copy of the owner’s family book will suffice.
- A document of the legal representative’s power of attorney
- If a corporation owns the trade license, a copy of it.
- a certified copy of the owner’s notarized signature (in cases where the property owner has opted for such)
