Abu Dhabi Launches 24/7 Mental Health Support Hotline “800-SAKINA” for Residents

Abu Dhabi Activates 800-SAKINA: A 24/7 Mental Health Support Hotline for the Community

In a move aimed at strengthening community wellbeing, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has launched a dedicated 24/7 mental health support hotline, providing immediate psychological assistance for residents across the emirate.

The hotline has been activated in collaboration with Sakina, a leading mental health network operating under SEHA, which is a subsidiary of PureHealth.

24/7 Mental Health Assistance for the Community

Residents can access the service by calling 800-SAKINA (800-725462). The hotline offers psychological first aid and provides direct access to qualified mental health professionals who can assist individuals experiencing emotional or psychological distress.

The service is available in both Arabic and English, ensuring accessibility for a diverse population. Special support services are also available for children and families, making the initiative inclusive for all members of the community.

People can reach out to the hotline for a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Stress and emotional distress
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Feelings of overwhelm
  • Ongoing mental health conditions requiring guidance

Individuals already managing mental health challenges can also receive professional advice on coping strategies during periods of increased anxiety or life changes.

Commitment to Community Wellbeing

According to Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of DoH, the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring accessible mental health support for all residents.

She emphasized that the hotline ensures timely and trusted support whenever residents need it, adding that the health authorities remain closely connected to community needs and concerns.

Dr. Al Ghaithi noted that no concern is too small to discuss, and residents are encouraged to reach out whenever they need support. She also reassured the public that Abu Dhabi’s health system continues to operate safely and effectively for everyone.

Safe, Confidential and Compassionate Support

The 800-SAKINA hotline provides a safe, confidential, and compassionate space for individuals to talk about their concerns. Whether someone has lived in Abu Dhabi for many years or has recently arrived, the service aims to ensure that no one feels they must face their worries alone.

This initiative forms part of Abu Dhabi’s broader strategy to develop an integrated and resilient healthcare system that protects both physical and mental wellbeing through preventive, personalised and community-centred care.

Tips to Maintain Mental Wellbeing

Health authorities also encourage residents to take proactive steps to protect their mental health by:

  • Maintaining regular daily routines
  • Staying connected with family and friends
  • Limiting exposure to distressing or unverified news
  • Seeking help when feeling overwhelmed
